Swiggy increased platform fees during festive season, now you will have to pay Rs 14 on every order

New Delhi: Food delivery company Swiggy has increased the platform fee for its customers with the start of the festive season. Now instead of Rs 12, a fee of Rs 14 will have to be paid on every order. The company has recently announced this increase of Rs 2. Swiggy says that with this step, it wants to increase the company’s earnings by making every order more profitable.

When did the platform fee start?

Swiggy started charging platform fees for the first time in April 2023. Its purpose was to strengthen the financial position of the company. Since then, the company has gradually increased this fee. The special thing is that despite the increase in fees, there has been no significant impact on the number of Swiggy orders. According to the company, customers are easily accepting this small increase.

Lakhs of orders every day, the company will get huge profit

Swiggy delivers more than 20 lakh orders every day. According to this, an increase of Rs 2 will give the company an additional income of about Rs 40 lakh daily. That is, there can be a profit of Rs 36 crore every quarter and Rs 144 crore annually. However, the company has indicated that after the festive season is over, it can reduce this fee again to Rs 12.

Why did the loss increase?

Swiggy has taken this decision at a time when the company’s losses have increased drastically. Especially the big investments made in its quick commerce service Instamart are the main reason for this. According to the data released on July 31, Swiggy’s loss in the first quarter of the financial year 2025-26 increased by 96% to Rs 1197 crore compared to last year. Last year during this period this loss was Rs 611 crore.

What will be the impact on customers?

The increase of Rs 2 may seem small, but for customers who order food daily, it may increase the cost a bit. However, Swiggy’s offers and discounts during the festive season can reduce this increase to some extent. Customers are advised to keep an eye on the total cost while ordering.

No further information has been given by Swiggy in this regard yet, but it is believed that the company will continue to take such steps to further strengthen its financial position.
